Bridging Volted Dragons to BNB Chain: multichain as the future of mixed DeFi & gaming ecosystems

PROJECT OVERVIEW
PROJECT OVERVIEW

When expanding a mixed P2E/DeFi ecosystem to other chains, the gaming bridg often gets less attention than the DeFi part – and yet it’s crucial to take both of them multichain. Our new partnership with Volt Inu showcases how easily this can be done.

About VDSC and Volt Inu

Volted Dragons Sailors Club (VDSC) are a collection of 3D dragons on Ethereum. They look like a mix between dragons and humans: they are smartly dressed, wear sunshades, and appear in front of famous landmarks. According to the lore, Volted Dragons have learned to hide in cruise ships (thus the Sailors Club) and make friends with people.

The collection is presented by Volt Inu, a multichain ecosystem (Ethereum, BNB Chain, and Polygon) that combines DeFi and Play-to-Earn. It includes a DEX, a P2E racing game, and even an AI-powered utility that interacts with blockchain airdrops.

The platform’s token is $VOLT, traded on over 80 exchanges, including Gate.io, Hotbit, and MEXC. The profits earned by various Volt Inu modules are re-directed back into the ecosystem to support the value of $VOLT. The community has a serious say in the governance: for example, in February 2023 token holders voted to burn $75 million worth of VOLT.

Coming back to Volted Dragons NFTs, they have multifaceted utility. On May 18, Volt Inu opened the first VoltiEco staking pool for $VOLT and VSDC NFTs, with attractive rewards. There was a limit of 200 VSDC, and it was reached within minutes

On top of DeFi rewards, Dragon holders get access to a share of the ecosystem’s revenue, the Sailors’ Lounge user area, real-world events, and future NFT mints.

Originally there were 10,000 VDSC NFTs, but the project eventually burned over 5,500 of them, making the collection even more exclusive. Volted Dragons are available on OpenSea with a floor price of 0.33 ETH (around $600). Only 4% of the collection is listed. Indeed, it makes sense for VDSC owners to hold on to their NFTs, considering that more DeFi integrations are planned.

Volted Dragons are also integrated into Volt Inu’s gaming platform, VoltiGames. Together with Forge Universe Blacksmith Labs, Volt Inu created VSDC Battle Royale – a game where you can land in various locations on an island, collect weapons, and fight other players. And yes, your character is a dragon.

The game is currently in Early Access on Steam.

Volt Inu is already on BNB Chain – it’s time to bridge the Dragons, too

Volt Inu’s main DeFi feature, VoltiChange DEX, operates on both Ethereum and BNB Chain. Considering how high Ethereum gas fees have become lately, this is a serious competitive advantage over DEXes based on Ethereum only. $VOLT is traded on both Uniswap and PancakeSwap.

BNB Chain also supports Volt Inu’s first on-chain game, Volt Inu Racer, which we haven’t had a chance to mention yet. It’s a racing game where you can either participate in free-to-play races or compete for your favorite projects. Users pay a small fee to join a race, and at the end 80% of the accumulated fees is distributed to the winning team.

To play VoltRacer, you need to have a VDSC NFT. Yet, like we said before, Volted Dragons were minted on Ethereum. You can already see where we are going, right? For users to play and win on BSC, they need to bridge Volted Dragons NFTs. As of the time of writing (May 2023), there are already a lot of registered projects (teams).

So far the experiment with bridging via XP.NETWORK has been limited to two Volted Dragons NFTs: they were bridged from Ethereum to BNB Chain and then back. On the XP.NETWORK part, we made sure that the smart contract on the BNB Chain replicates all the contract logic of the collection on Ethereum, and that all the token IDs, original URIs, etc. are displayed correctly.

Together with our partners at Volt Inu, we’ll be tracking the Dragons’ multichain expansion and update this article once more NFTs are bridged. For now, let’s see how a project can use simple NFT bridging to launch a whole community-building campaign.

Mint on Ethereum, launch a product on another chain: a success scenario for NFT projects

Volt Inu’s case study is an occasion to look at one of our favorite use cases for NFT bridging, because it combines utility and promotion.

  • A project starts by minting an NFT collection on Ethereum and listing it on OpenSea to take advantage of the huge community and high liquidity. For example, Volted Dragons’ total trading volume is over 870 ETH, or $1.56 million.
  • Next, the project releases a product on a more efficient chain and integrates NFT utility into it. In the case of Volt Inu, it’s a racing game that is open only to VDSC NFT holders. Launching a game on Ethereum only doesn’t make economic sense, as transaction fees could outweigh the rewards.
  • BNB Chain isn’t exactly the cheapest chain, either (around $0.15 per transaction), but it is home to some of the biggest Web3 games: Alien World, BinaryX, Galactic Arena, Crazy Defense Heroes, MOBOX: NFT Farmer, SecondLive, MetaMerge, etc.
  • The next step is to enable NFT bridging between Ethereum and BNB Chain (Polygon, Solana, etc.). XP.NETWORK is the easiest way to do it: our powerful NFT bridge already supports 25+ blockchains, both EVM and non-EVM.
  • What’s more, we offer a customizable widget that can be integrated on the front end of any website or dApp. The project can choose which chains to enable in the widget: Ethereum to BNB Chain and back, for example. This will make bridging even easier for users, and they won’t accidentally send NFTs to a wrong network.
  • The final step is to promote the new product to the NFT holders on Ethereum. They will be excited about the possibility of earning rewards without selling their NFTs. A project can even launch a special giveaway for everyone who bridges.
  • As a result, the new product will get its first wave of users. As they belong to the original community, they will remain loyal to the project on BNB Chain – and acquiring them will cost almost nothing.
  • If the project has an unsold part of the collection on Ethereum, it can also batch-bridge it to BNB Chain and sell it there to attract liquidity and more users for the new product.
  • Bridging NFTs is a low-cost way to launch a product on a different chain and build a community there. We’ve already assisted many NFT and gaming projects with such campaigns: for example, Drifters became one of the top-selling projects on MultiverseX (Elrond) after migrating from Ethereum.
