Crypto Arcade is billed as the simplest Play-to-Earn platform in the industry. It’s inspired by old-style arcade games such as the legendary Flappy Bird. Prizes are paid in XTZ, and every game has its own prize pool, distributed weekly among the top-performing players.
To start playing, a user needs to either buy credits (just like you would insert a coin in a classic arcade game machine) or – better – mint one of the 10,000 Flappy NFTs. Apart from not having to pay on a per-game basis, a Flappy NFT makes a user eligible for a share in the platform’s profits.
One of the most interesting features of Crypto Arcade is that it has a lot of exclusive, token-gated content. Some sections of the metaverse are blocked off, and you can only access them if you hold specific NFTs in a wallet.
This is called token-gating and has become a popular tool among NFT projects. For example, in a lot of P2E gaming and metaverse Discords, you need to demonstrate that you have an NFT of the project before you can join special holder-only chats.
Crypto Arcade’s NFT ‘keys’ are called CryptoCarts and look like floppy disc drives or cartridges. The range of exclusive NFT-gated activities on Crypto Arcade include competitions, giveaways, bonus areas in the metaverse, etc.
The challenge: using originally non-EVM NFTs as keys with Lit Protocol
In order to make CryptoCarts work as keys to the premium areas of the metaverse, the team of Crypto Arcade decided to use Lit Protocol – the leading solution for decentralized access to Web3 apps, files, events, social media platforms, and so on.
Lit Protocol supports gating with tokens, NFTs, and blockchain identities. It’s also compatible with many EVM blockchains: Ethereum, BNB Chain, Polygon, Harmony, Avalanche, Arbitrum, Fantom, and so on.
The problem was that Crypto Arcade was originally built on Tezos – a non-EVM chain. This made sense as Tezos is a very NFT-friendly and environmentally-friendly blockchain that offers ‘clean’ NFTs. But creating an NFT-gated access system with Tezos remains difficult, so the team of Crypto Arcade had to look for an alternative.
A good solution was found: bridging CryptoCarts from Tezos to Harmony and Ethereum. XP.NETWORK was the obvious partner for such a move, as it’s the only NFT-first bridge to support over 15 EVM and non-EVM chains, including Harmony and Tezos.
Our team has extensive experience bridging whole NFT collections while preserving their smart contract logic. It’s also possible to track the transaction history of any NFT even as it is bridged, thus avoiding the emergence of isolated blockchain data silos.
It was one of our first experiences bridging NFTs from Tezos to Harmony, but everything went smoothly. CryptoCart Minis are now available on the following marketplaces: daVinci (Harmony), Objkt (Tezos), and OpenSea (Ethereum).
Any holder can also bridge their Mini to Harmony independently using the XP widget on the website.
CryptoCarts and Crypto Arcade have become part of the P2E and metaverse ecosystem on Harmony. The project has been featured in ONEWeekly and other podcasts, and virtual land in the Crypto Arcade metaverse has been selling out very fast.
