XP.NETWORK and CyberCity: the engagement-building power of
cross-chain bridging

PROJECT OVERVIEW
PROJECT OVERVIEW

XP.NETWORK’s new integration with the cyberpunk P2E game CyberCity showcases the power of NFT bridging in building traction and awareness. NFT projects can engage their communities through special events that include bridging instead of launching an expensive marketing campaign centered on just one ecosystem.

About CyberCity

Our new partner CyberCity is a cyberpunk RPG game on the Polygon blockchain. Action takes place in an dOstopian City of the near future, where all the money is controlled by Corporations, while regular people struggle to survive.

Players can choose between 10 classes of NFT characters, such as samurais, paladins, and street fighters. You can even get an animal companion to help you in your explorations, like an armored Shiba Inu or a stray cat. Characters and weapons can be upgraded, and you can also buy NFT city blocks to construct a base of operations.

Rewards in CYBR tokens can be earned by fighting other players and the AI for control over city blocks, raiding locations for resources, or participating in quests. The tokenomics and NFT model is designed to be sustainable, and Cyber City even uses AI to regulate the game economy.

CyberCity is currently in free alpha (works on Windows only),  and if you reach level 5, you’ll get 300 CBYR. You can also purchase NFTs and use them to mint CYBR ahead of the game release. In turn, CYBR can be staked for more rewards.

Bridging to BNB Chain as an efficient expansion strategy

CyberCity runs on Polygon, one of the most popular chains in Play-to-Earn gaming. Its low fees make it a great choice for metaverses and other projects with a lot of micro-transactions (such as reward withdrawals) and NFT transfers.

For example, an average player stakes an NFT to start farming, then withdraws the accumulated rewards daily – and many have several staked NFTs. Add to this the rewards for battles, loot collected in-game, etc.  - and you can easily get to 20 transactions per player per day.

On Polygon, you’ll pay barely $0.05 for a transaction, though the finality time is pretty long – around 5 minutes. It’s a reasonable trade-off, though, as P2E game action doesn’t happen real-time.

Nevertheless, even for games based on the best chains it’s always useful to expand to new ecosystems. XP.NETWORK’s partners often say that their main reason for bridging is not technology-driven. Rather, it’s about accessing new communities and liquidity.

At any stage, a project can see a slowdown in its growth on the original chain: the costs of acquiring new users start to rise, the community and NFT sales grow much slower, etc. Instead of investing a lot of extra money into marketing, a project can bridge an NFT collection to a different chain, invest  a much smaller amount to promote it, and get a much higher ROI. You can even split the mint itself: for example, release 70% of the original collection on Polygon, and the rest on BNB Chain or Ethereum.

Preparing for a bridging campaign and challenge in collaboration with XP.NETWORK

CyberCity made the wise decision to go multichain early on, expanding to BNB Chain (BSC). First, the team launched on NFTb and then started a promo with Liquidifty (a BSC-based NFT utility platform). However, these are sales of boxes with several characters and City Blocks in each, costing up to$700.

As a more accessible option, CyberCity approached XP.NETWORK, and we found a very creative way to attract attention to the project.

As we are writing this, CyberCity hasn’t yet announced any mass bridging campaign for the community. But since you got to this point in the article, we can share some early alpha with you:  XP.NETWORK will soon host the first-ever XP Challenge in partnership with CyberCity.

As part of the Challenge, you will be able to win valuable NFTs for completing various challenges. They include bridging CyberCity NFTs from Polygon to BSC: you’ll accumulate more and more points as you bridge one, 3, or 5 assets. You’ll also get points for transferring NFTs from any other collection with XP.NETWORK, but to get ahead in the leaderboard, you’ll need to use CyberCity assets.

Just like with all our gaming and metaverse integrations, users will be able to bridge CyberCity NFTs between Polygon and any of the 28+ target chains that our NFT bridge supports (not just BSC). As usual, we first mapped the smart contracts and then ran a few trial transactions to check that everything worked. We need to check that the token ID and other metadata are transferred properly.

You can see the results here in the XP.NETWORK Explorer – an innovative tool that tracks NFT movements across blockchains. Other blockchain explorers will show you difficult-to-read transaction data, while our Explorer clearly shows the image, collection, ID, departure and target chain, and the total fee.

Transaction 1 | Transaction 2 | Transaction 3

As you can see, we bridged different NFT types – a character, a Land plot, and a lootbox. It costs around $0.7-0.8 to bridge from Polygon to BSC, but when using our exclusive batch-bridging technology, the cost per NFT would be much lower.

This integration shows how NFT bridging can be used as part of a marketing strategy. Even if a project doesn’t plan to build any game modules on another chain, a bridging campaign is still very much worthwhile. It can electrify the community, get users to compete for a place on a leaderboard while learning to bridge at the same time.
